Another promotional idea might be a JLCM collaboration with B-Movie Comic (if you have not done one already), just for the irony. You could even review B-Movie Comic as if it were a real movie.

I would think the best result would be a collaborative effort between you and Joe. Bring both groups of readers so there's more people to enter. Because, as much as digital media and youtube has brought it around for people to make their own stuff, it's still not super easy for everybody.

And the more people that enter the better. You'll have that many more to pick from for the best ones, and that many more spreading the word for you.

And I must say that it's about time we all hung out again! Good opportunity for fun times.

I've secretly wanted to do a short cartoon with Free Lunch for a while. I haven't written any sort of script or anything, but I think it would transfer well.
But, I'd be for trying to film something with you chaps. Maybe some kind of sample, or some kind of fake commercial for this contest. Get some ideas out. I didn't spend 3 grand on this camera for nothing!

Live action Free Lunch? Now THAT would be worth it... but ultimately, would probably be damn expensive to produce, considering the effects that would be needed... then again, to make it "B-movie style" would possibly be more entertaining than high end.

I think that, since the suggestion promotes a video, maybe you guys should put something together on video? Somehow splice yourselves (Joe and Tom, and Gordon if applicable) into one location/one video as the advertisement, instead of a text based advertisement.

I think it would also be insanely cool if one of the contests was a re-enactment of that persons favorite digital pimp strip. Seriously live action Matriculated or Retail Rage? Or someone building their own Mike fishhead for a Fish Tank live action?

That's a really cool idea. Maybe dedicate a whole moth to it where the top four are featured every monday of that week . Have the readers vote those top four into place. Have other comics throguhout the month that focus in on other low budget internt filommaking like Clarkandmichael.com and such.

I really like the idea of focusing on a differnt aspect of filmmaking.

Awesome idea Carl. Awesome.

I had a thought the other day on a possible promotional opportunity for JLCM, or maybe a JLCM and Theater Hopper collaborative promotion. This might be a down the line sort of idea, but I think it could work currently as well.

Basically, a user submitted film festival. Set up a topic, some guidelines on length, if it's themed, content (swearing/violence/sex), and such.

Have them submit the video through youtube, and emailing you a link. Have a day on the site to link your top choices, and maybe have prizes for some picks of best direction, effects, use of crayons, etc. I guess that depends on the amount of entries.

It might be an interesting way to:
1. spread the word about your stuff.
2. see what your fanbase comes up with.
3. use your fan base to promote yourself.

I'd submit an entry cause I like having reasons to film something. And I figure people would come up with something entertaining. Maybe even somebody dressing up like you to re-enact their favorite strips.
